Our building’s solar array is used to fully power our facility as well as all of our battery-operated tools we use in the field. This ensures that we have a renewable source of power for all your landscaping needs.

We are constantly working to find new ways to be good stewards of the earth while creating landscapes that inspire and enhance the biota of your community.

 

Biota Gives Back

Since 2005, biota has worked with a variety of organizations to give back to our community. We have partnered to raise money for riot impacted communities, planted trees in tornado ravaged neighborhoods, created play areas for children experiencing systemic inequities, and built vegetable gardens to teach children the idea of garden to table.

 

Our other Initiatives

From helping with invasive fish management to composting to reducing noise pollution in your community.

  • We use low growing plants to cover bare areas in the garden, smother weeds and hold moisture. This is called "green mulch" and is a great ecological alternative to using annual applications of hardwood mulch.
  • Plantings are chosen based on the biota of your site. We choose plant species that will thrive in your landscape and add ecological value to your environment.
  • Our Horticulture Teams use battery operated equipment to maintain your property. This equipment is charged at our facility using our solar power. These machines run quiet and create no emissions.
  • Most plant containers are not recyclable in our local system. Our plant containers are reused by a local grower, saving them from the landfill.
  • Our team can work with you to create your own Victory Garden, ensuring your family has fresh produce during the growing season.
  • Solar panels fully power our facility and even provide all the energy necessary to charge our horticultural team's battery-operated equipment. Solar is a renewable source of energy and produces no greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Any debris removed from a project site is sorted and sent for the best disposal option. Green debris is sent to facilities for composting.
  • We worked with a local recycling expert to minimize the amount of trash we produce. All garbage produced at our facility is sorted into composting, recycling and garbage bins for proper disposal.
  • We use a locally made fertilizer that is responsibly sourced and made using invasive carp. This is a 100% organic slow-release fertilizer that aids in healthy plant growth.
