Private Bungalow

A newly constructed ADU (accessory dwelling unit) created the opportunity for an intimate gathering space in this urban yard. Since this is the lowest spot in the yard, everything drained toward this area. Permeable paving effectively manages the water and allows for a beautiful modern space around a gas firepit.

Simple materials and thoughtful design provide a private patio next to the architect designed bungalow.

The building architect designed the walls of the bungalow to open up, creating a true indoor/outdoor space to work from home or host house guests.

The multi-folding walls of the bungalow allow the space to act as one giant area when entertaining guests. The views through the space make the space feel much larger than it actually is.

The aerial view shows how the new patio space nestles into the corner of the yard creating an intimate, private space. Lush green vegetation surrounds the space further enhancing this oasis in the city.

Alliums are a great pollinator plant. They attract a variety of bees and butterflies into the garden.

Permeable pavers capture water from the property, allowing the water to percolate into the ground. Water on the site is managed on the property and is not sent into the city’s already overburdened stormwater system.
